LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT YEAR VISION

Are you interested in spending a year growing in your discipleship and leadership whilst serving others? Then why not explore the Leadership Development Year starting in September 2024.

We believe every person has a unique part to play in God’s kingdom so we are offering this opportunity to learn more about who God has made you to be and how you can serve others as a Leader.

Over the last six years we have seen 21 LDY’ers through the programme, with 3 more participating this year. Scroll to the bottom to find out what some of them are up to now!

The LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT YEAR runs from September 2024 to July 2025 and it involves 3.5 days working with us where you’ll receive weekly training in discipleship and leadership to equip you to serve in a ministry area within the church. Alongside this you’ll receive mentoring and coaching throughout the year to further your personal development.

LDY is designed for anyone who wants to grow in leadership, including (but not only for) those interested in church ministry. The year is all about helping you to discover more about who you are (your gifts and calling) and equipping you for whatever God has in store for your future.

+ How does it work?

You’ll be part of the staff team, spending 3.5 days a week with us (including Sunday’s, Monday's and Wednesday’s). Each week you’ll take part in leadership and theology training with the other LDY’ers taught by a mix of the team here and outside of St Swithin’s. You’ll serve within a ministry area to put into practise what you are learning and have weekly mentoring and coaching for your personal development.

+ What will you get involved in?

You’ll serve in a ministry stream which we’ll chat through with you during the application process. To give you an idea here are some examples from previous years: Rising Gens / LYN / 18-25’s / Storyteller / Alpha / Worship. If there is an area you are interested in which isn’t listed we’d be happy to have a discussion with you about it.

This stream will be your main focus for the year. You’ll also get stuck into other areas of church life, such as services, Alpha, Kingdom Come and resourcing other churches.

+ Who is it for?

Are you someone who wants to explore your calling, develop your leadership skills and grow as a disciple making disciple? Are you considering a year out perhaps before studying or starting work or are you a recent graduate? Then LDY is for you! You’ll need to be a committed Christian and willing to give your time to the life of the church.

+ When does it run?

LDY starts in September 2024 and runs until July 2025.

+ How much does it cost?

It’s free. We want to invest in you for the year. You will need to find a way to support yourself financially, we recommend getting a part time job. If you need help finding accommodation please let us know; we’re more than happy to chat through these details with you.
